Impact
Sir Francis Drake brought many positives and negatives in society when going on his voyages. He traveled the world and impacted many different people and groups of peoples lives. One positive outcome of his was bringing much wealth and riches to the European country, England. The country wanted to be powerful and explore to spread their religion. To do this, Queen Elizabeth sent Sir Francis Drake on a successful expedition to circumnavigate the globe. With his success came great riches. Ultimately they were benefitting from Drake selling slaves and sailing on very profitable trade routes. He was also an important aspect in England's naval success. He had helped the country defeat the Spanish Armada therefore England became the most powerful navy in the world. Unfortunately, he did have many negative affects on society. He was a ruthless pirate and stole most of his riches from the Spanish and also indigenous peoples. Most English people did not approve of this but ultimately it was helping their society. Drake just looked out for himself and stole treasures of the native peoples lands that he was discovering. When conquering and taking over Spanish lands he was taking over the lands of the natives. The native people were already not doing well from the Spanish but he probably kept it the same way. By taking over those lands he was continuing the same thing the Spanish were, taking riches and ruining their civilization. In between all that, he was also participating in the Columbian Exchange in two ways. First stealing goods from some Spanish ships,by pirating, and also trading his enslaved people. By trading those slaves it contributed to the population decline in Africa and also hurt the Spanish society by stealing their goods. The Spanish were being defeated and Drake was taking the power right from them.
